Shanghai exhibition blends digital and traditional art

The 14th National Exhibition of Fine Arts, China, is going on at China Art Museum, Shanghai from July 18 to Aug 25. 

The exhibition of oil painting, experimental art, digital art and animation works of the 14th National Exhibition of Fine Arts, China, is going on at China Art Museum, Shanghai from July 18 to Aug 25.

The National Exhibition of Fine Arts, China is the largest nation-wide showcase of fine arts that takes place every five years. It is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the Chinese Artists Association. 

This year altogether 697 works were selected from 1,253 oil painting submissions from around China. "These paintings reflect the great achievements of Chinese modernization, many portraying historical moments, national heroes and landmark events, " said Fan Di'an, chairman of the Chinese Artists Association. 

"Some paintings on the other hand, choose to feature the life and work of ordinary people, local and ethnic cultural elements, or the connection between human and nature."

The experimental, digital art and animation works exhibition received 2,877 submissions, of those only 233 artworks selected from them to be put on display in Shanghai. These artworks feature diverse subjects and forms. Many artworks combine handicraft with digital image processing and animation to create an immersive experience for viewers.
