Deputy Director-General Gu Yucai Visited Hunan Provincial Museum

On the afternoon of March 17, Gu Yucai, deputy director-general of State Administration of Cultural Heritage and Chen Hong, director of Office Budget Department of State Administration of Cultural Heritage, accompanied by Chen Yuanping, director-general of Hunan Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage, visited Hunan Provincial Museum, making an investigation into the grant utilization of Hunan Provincial Museum, one of eight national foremost museums eligible to be co-constructed by both central and local governments. Chen Jianming, secretary of the Party Committee and director of Hunan Provincial Museum, You Zhenqun, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and Liu Xiaobao, vice director of the museum received and expressed the heartfelt welcome to the investigation group.

Director Chen made a report on the basic situation of Hunan Provincial Museum since the implement of free admission and the progress of “Reconstruction and Expansion Project”, highlighting the grant-related institutional building and operating as well as the managing work. Focusing on how to promote the system and mechanism reform of national foremost museums co-constructed by both central and local governments, heated discussions had been waged around how to manage the grant, how to improve efficiency of funds and how to give full play to the representative and exemplary roles of such foremost museums.

Mr. Gu Yucai gave full recognition and affirmation to the distinctive features demonstrated by the eight foremost museums, namely, Shanghai Museum, Nanjing Museum, Hunan Provincial Museum, Henan Museum, Shaanxi History Museum, Hebei Museum, Zhejiang Provincial Museum and Liaoning Museum, encouraged all museums to hold the right attitude and strategy to face the challenges and difficulties in the new situation of free admission and to further perfect the incentive mechanism and evaluation system. At the same time, Hunan Provincial Museum also been hoped to make remarks and suggestions to the soon-to-be publishedRegulations on Grants Appropriated to the Foremost Museums Co-constructed by Central and Local Governments.
