On the occasion of “Charm of Silver Jewelries: Exhibition of Silver Jewelries of Miao Ethnic Group from Hunan, Guangxi and Guizhou” being held at Hunan Provincial Museum, the family-day activity on “a journey in Miao family" was held on May 2, 2011.

When the family-day began, an educator, dressed like a “Micai” (means girl in Miao language), made her debut with brilliant costume and graceful dance to the joyful folk song from Miao ethnic group. Then, under the guidance of “Micai”, kids visited around the exhibition hall displaying exquisite and distinctive silver jewelries, listening to the exotic stories of Miao people and appreciating the beauty of these jewelries.

Next, the kids watched the videos about the traditions and customs of Miao people, and how to produce and wear the sliver jewelries, gaining some knowledge about the life and festivals of the Miao people and marveling at the complicated and exquisite craftsmanship of the hand-making process of silver jewelries.

In the “Hands-on Activity” part, the kids passionately participated in the interactive corner and designed their own “silver chest cards”, with such materials as milk boxes, paper clips, etc. prepared by Hunan Provincial Museum.

This Family-Day activity, integrating the knowledge into the interesting games, is favorably reviewed by both kids and parents. Many parents expressed the wishes to participate in more activities held at the museum in future.
