Exhibition of Seven-stringed Zithers Held at Hunan Provincial Museum

“Finding Soul Friends in Guqin Melody: Exhibition of Seven-stringed Zithers from the Collection of Hunan Provincial Museum” opened to the public on July 26.

Invited and to attend the opening ceremony were more than 20 media such as Hunan TV, Hunan Economic TV, Hunan Urban Channel, Hunan Daily, Morning Herald, Changsha Evening News, Sanxiang City Express, etc.

Featuring 30 Guqin masterpieces from its own renowned collection with time ranging from Tang Dynasty (618—907AD) and the Republic of China period (1912-1949), Hunan Provincial Museum will explore the long-lasting traditional culture of Guqin, providing the audiences with an opportunity to appreciate the charm of Guqin art and carrying forward the Chinese cultural heritage. 

You Zhengqun, the deputy general secretary of CPC of Hunan Provincial Museum, addressed the press conference, expressing the gratitude for the coming of Mr. Ye Hansheng, president of Hunan Guqin Culture Association, professor of Hunan University and well-known Guqin scholar, and the media friends.

Benefited from the rich cultural and historical heritage of Guqin in the land of Hunan, the homeland of Guqin, Hunan Provincial Museum thus boasts a collection of 53 pieces of Guqin from were created between the Western Han Dynasty (206BC- 25AD) and the Republic of China period (1912-1949), hence being ranked as one of the museums equipped with Guqin in the largest number and best quality in China.

Compared with the popularity and development of modern music, the true meaning, origin, and importance of these Guqin are obviously rarely known by the people. Therefore, Hunan Provincial Museum has elaborately selected 30 pieces of Guqin from its collection and holds a special exhibition at the exhibition hall, in the hope of providing the public with a chance to appreciate the unique charm of Guqin.

The exhibition is on view on the third floor of New Exhibition Building, where audience can enjoy the melody of on-site professional Guqin playing behind a silk misty curtain and virtual scene generated by the multimedia technology, attracting the audiences with lofty mountains and running streams changing to the music.

According to reports, audience will enjoy a pleasant visit: apart from appreciating the Guqin with both aesthetic values and profound cultural deposits and listening to the melody played on-site by professional musician, they can also join in various activities on the theme of this exhibition, such as hands-on activity, blind date in Guqin melody, special tours, etc.
