On the afternoon of March 1, 90 school children ranging from Grade Two to Grade Four participated the second round of the serial activities "Mysterious Tibet Bathed in Buddha’s Light: Art Class for Kids". These activities were planned and organized by the education center of Hunan Provincial Museum, in the hope of providing young students with a happy and colorful vacation as well as more opportunities of closely getting to know Tibetan art and religious culture which feature distinctive regional characteristics.

The whole activity was divided into three sessions: touring exhibition hall, watching film and drawing Thang-ga (a traditional Tibetan scroll painting mounted on colored satin). Unlike the usual guided tour, this education program put more emphasis on the active learning process of students. Through observing, analyzing and ideas-exchanging, these students had experienced quite different delights during the process of exploring and searching.

First of all, the educators of our museum gave a brief and easily-understood introduction to the exhibition. Then the students moved on to tour around the exhibition in groups. When the tour came to the end, they watched a special film named "How to Paint Thang-ga" in the activity room. After they watched this short video, they had not only learned about the steps for producing Thang-ga, but also had been deeply impressed by the sincerity to art represented by Thang-ga artists. At last, the students drew their own Thang-ga paintings with the theme "Thang-ga in My Mind". As a result, they expressed their feelings and ideas inspired by the Tibetan Cultural Exhibition in their distinctive and creative Thang-ga-like paintings.

During the "Mysterious Tibet Bathed in Buddha’s Light" exhibition, the education center will continue to plan and organize more education programs, aiming to facilitate teenagers in better understanding the history, culture and folk customs of Tibet.
