Hunan Provincial Museum to be Temporarily Closed for Renovation and Expansion
Now the renovation and expansion project of Hunan Provincial Museum gets under full swing. In order to guarantee the smooth progress and quality of the project and avoid accidents towards visitors or cultural relics, Hunan Provincial Museum is to be closed from June 18th, 2012 to the end of 2015.
As a key cultural project of Hunan’s Twelfth Five-Year Plan, the renovation and expansion project of Hunan Provincial Museum, with a total investment of $131 million (RMB 850 million yuan), will boast of a total building area of about 83,000 m 2.
With expanded reception capacity and enhanced service, the renovated museum is expected to receive over 3 million visitors annually, a considerable increase from the 1.2 million at present.
Once the renovation project is completed, Hunan Provincial Museum will become a key national-level museum showcasing the civilization of China, a window through which history and culture of Hunan is viewed and carried forward, a public service centre providing highbrow culture and art, and a brand new landmark of Changsha City. In line with the resource-saving and environment-friendly requirements, this renovated museum will reach the international standards.
The decision is proposed by Department of Culture of Hunan and approved by the Government of Hunan. It is estimated that the closure will last for three years.
During this period, Hunan Provincial Museum endeavors to complete the project as early as possible. Meanwhile, it will continues to provide quality service and strive to satisfy the cultural appetite of the general public by taking the following measures:
