“Noble Tombs at Mawangdui” Held at Inner Mongolia Museum

Since September 19, 2012, Special Exhibition of “Noble Tombs at Mawangdui: Art and Life in the Changsha Kingdom”, co-hosted by Inner Mongolia Museum and Hunan Provincial Museum, is being held at Inner Mongolia Museum. This exhibition, curated by Hunan Provincial Museum, features 120 sets of cultural relics excavated from Mawangdui Han Tombs and elsewhere in Hunan Province. This is the first time for most of the audiences in Inner Mongolia to view those cultural relics.
This exhibition comprises of four sections. Section One is “Changsha Kingdom and Mawangdui Han Tombs”, presenting the history of Changsha Kingdom and Mawangdui Tombs; Section Two is “Life of the Nobles in Han Dynasty”, showcasing many aspects of the life of nobles, including the food culture, entertainment, body fitness, clothes and cosmetics; Section Three is “Ancient Texts”, illustrating the social and cultural thoughts in early Han Dynasty; Section Four is “People’s View towards Mortality in Han Dynasty”, showing the passion and aspiration of Han people towards eternal life.

Han Dynasty covers a time span of about four centuries. It is the first golden period in China’s history, witnessing the tremendous development in both cultural and material aspects. This exhibition aims at providing the audiences with the opportunity to enjoy the unique and glamorous culture of Han Dynasty, which is over 2000 years ago, by displaying the cultural relics from Mawangdui Han Tombs. What’s more, the audiences are expected to have a systemic understanding of the history regarding Changsha Kingdom and Mawangdui Han Tombs, by feasting their eyes on the breathtaking bronze wares, exquisite lacquer wares, colorful silk fabrics and potteries with simple designs.
This exhibition will run along for three month, from September 19 to December 19. It is reported that within the first week, this exhibition has already attracted almost 20,000 audiences.
