2013 “Art Changsha” Exhibition Kicks off
2013 Art Changsha kicks off at Changsha Municipal Museum on Otober 19th, 2013. It was co-organized by Changsha Municipal Government, Radio, Film and Television Bureau of Hunan Province, Hunan Provincial Administration of Cultural Relics and hosted by Hunan Provincial Museum, Hunan Tan Guobin Museum of Contemporary Art and Jialexuan Company.
Art Changsha has been already successfully held for three times. By taking advantage of the ideal location of Changsha in Central China and its regional cultural resources, Art Changsha promotes the artistic creation and education development in Hunan province and has attracted worldwide attention. The inclusiveness and openness of China’s contemporary culture and the unique spiritual values are fully demonstrated.
The Opening Ceremony of 2013 “Art Changsha”
With the launch of the Art Changsha, Yuelu Academy in Changsha, Hunan province held the “2013 Art Changsha•Art and Public Life: contemporary art and publization forum”. Many experts from various fields, ranging from creation, exhibition, education, marketing and collection in the art community were invited. They shared different practical experiences and discussed the effective ways of how to integrate the communication, promotion and collection of contemporary art with the development of the cities.
The forum consists of two sections. The first section includes the keynote speeches delivered by Thomas Krens from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, Wang Huangsheng, director of the Art Museum of China Central Academy of Fine Arts and Chen Jianming, director of Hunan Provincial Museum. Their speeches centered on the topic “the Interaction between the City Culture and the Public Trend of the Contemporary Art”. The second section includes the discussions by Fan Di’an, director of National Art Museum of China, Mario Cristiani, Italian, founder of Galleria Continua and other experts on the topic “The Promotion of the Contemporary Art by the public and private collection.”
Chen Jianming, director of Hunan Provincial Museum delivered the speech on the “2013 Art Changsha•Art and Public Life: contemporary art and publization forum.”
The exhibition runs from October 19th, to November 18th , 2013, with free admission.

The Introduction to the Artists of the 2013 “Art Changsha”
Zhou Chunya:he is one of the pioneers who have brought China’s contemporary art onto the international arena and he was awarded 2010 Martell Artists of the Year. He combines Chinese style of artist expression with the spirit of revolt tradition embodied in western painting. He is one of the best artists who have perfectly combined the tradition and the present. His works included “Green Dog”, “Peach Blossom” and so on.
Guo Wei: his works are the epitome of the Chinese characteristics, demonstrating aspiration of the city dwellers and the harm brought about by the emptiness in their hearts. Not content with depicting the “Human”, he is constantly exploring the new areas and achieving breakthroughs.
Ding Yi: he is one of the pioneers in the school of China’s abstract painting. The employment of the design “cross” is the characteristics of his painting style, forming the direct visual effect. With the harmonious element of the “cross” design, his paintings reveal the complicated influence between static and dynamism by the visual approach.
Xiang Jing: She is a sculptor, winning the 2012 Martell Artists of the Year. Most of her works give insight into the life of women with strong visual effect and great artistic appeal. Her representative work “The Virgin” series not only represents the real life of the women, but also demonstrate the way how women view the world. By studying the existing conditions of women, she endeavors to rethink the existing conditions of the mankind. It is the first time that many of her works are displayed in China.
