Taiwan’s National Palace Museum yesterday launched its Discover NPM app, which provides detailed information on the museum and its collection, as well as various multimedia functions for users to tinker with.
The museum said that it spent more than a year designing the multimedia software, which is available both in Chinese and English, in collaboration with Digimax.

The app features the 100 most representative pieces selected from the museum’s over 690,000-strong collection.

App users can view the museum’s prized “Jadeite Cabbage with Insects” in detail from several angles, and make the figures in the “Ting Ware White Ceramic Pillow in the Shape of a Child” and the Han Dynasty “Pi-hsieh” sit, stand, chuckle or laugh, as well as ring the millennia-old “Tsung-chou Bell”.

Besides an introduction to the museum, the software also provides travel information as well as weather forecasts.

The Andriod version of the software can be downloaded from Googleplay, while the release date for the iOS version is set for mid-January 2013.
