On the morning of May 16, Shan Jixiang, Director of State Administration of Cultural Heritage, Dong Baohua, Deputy Director of State Administration of Cultural Heritage and staff from relevant departments paid a security inspection visit to National Museum of China and were received by Lv Zhangshen, director of National Museum of China. Shan Jixiang and his team had a tight schedule: they listened to the security report by staff in charge of security in National Museum of China; inspected the equipments for security purposes; reviewed all the security management regulations and emergency response plans; inspected the security measures taken in the galleries; paid a visit to the security staff in the museum and put forward several suggestions for the improvement regarding the security of National Museum of China.

Shan Jixiang emphasized that security is of vital importance for a museum and it has high demands for science and technology, quality staff, excellent management and advanced equipments. When the museum is fully open to the public, there should be specific emergency response plans which are respectively designed for each gallery, as well as a general framework of emergency response plans. Detailed security plans and rescue methods in emergency should be worked out according to the importance of objects and their positions in the museum. Job responsibilities should be clearly defined and the duty shift system and registration system should be strictly carried out. Shan Jixiang expressed his hope that the staff in National Museum of China would bear in mind the awareness of security and ensure the security of this museum when it is officially open to the public with the high quality security staff, advanced equipments, efficient security management and touch security measures.

Since the completion of the expansion and renovation project of the National Museum of China, a lot of efforts had been made to improve the security system and implement the security measures, which ensured the smooth operation of the new museum during the trial period. Since May 8 when objects were stolen from the Palace Museum, National Museum of China took it as a warning and had launched a security inspection campaign to eliminate all potential hazards and it had been rewarded with fruitful results.
