The Training Workshop on Research and Appraisal of Ancient Chinese Jades opened in Changsha

The Training Workshop on Research and Appraisal of Ancient Chinese Jades, guided by the Cultural Heritage of Hunan, hosted by the Society of Hunan Provincial Museum and jointly undertaken by the Collection Preservation Committee of the Society of Hunan Provincial Museum, Changsha Museum and Hunan Museum, was officially opened on April 24 in Changsha.

Huang Lei, secretary general of the Society of Hunan Provincial Museum, Zhang Haijun, deputy director of Changsha Museum, Yu Yanjiao, curator of Hunan Museum and representatives of students from museums and cultural institutions in various cities of Hunan province attended the opening ceremony.

The workshop aims to thoroughly implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important discourses and instructions on cultural relics, and the spirit of the sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, continues to advance the implementation of central documents such as "Some Opinions on Strengthening the Reform of the Protection and Utilization of Cultural Relics", "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Reform and Development of Museums", " the 14th Five-year Plan for the Protection of Cultural Relics and Scientific and Technological Innovation", promotes the construction of the talent team for the preservation, research and appraisal of jades in Hunan province, and improve the work level of the preservation, research and appraisal of jades in museums and cultural institutions in Hunan province.

This workshop is divided into two stages. The basic knowledge of ancient jades was taught on stage 1(from April 24 to 27), Chang Suxia and Yu Yanjiao, well-known experts in domestic jade preservation and research, served as teachers. The teaching content mainly includes "Chinese ancient jade culture and research on jade unearthed in Hunan", "Application of ancient Chinese jade materials", "Appraisal of jade artifacts of past dynasties", "Discrimination and Appraisal of antique jade", "Research on jade making technology". The Symposium on Chinese Jade Culture was held on stage 2 (from April 28 to 29). At that time, the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Palace Museum, the Nanjing Museum, the Peking University, the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Hunan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, the Liaoning Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, the Hebei Museum, the Hunan Museum and many other museums and cultural institutions were invited. Experts and scholars from colleges and universities conducted online discussions on jade archaeological culture, scientific and technological analysis, jade origin research, appraisal, and aesthetic art.

Nearly 70 students from 14 cities of Hunan province participated in the workshop. The training workshop combines classroom lectures, physical observation, on-site teaching at the museum and online seminars to enable students to master the cultural connotation of ancient jade and the historical context of the development of Chinese jade, get familiar with the style and characteristics of jade in different periods, and further improve the ability of jade appraisal and research level.
