The Highlights of the Hunan Museum in 9th Chinese Exposition of Museums and Relevant Products and Technologies

On September 1, the 9th Chinese Exposition of Museums and Related Products and Technologies (hereinafter referred to as the MPT-EXPO), co-organized by the Chinese Museums Association, the Chinese Association of Natural Science Museums, and the Zhengzhou Municipal Government, was held at the Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center until September 4th. The theme of this year's MPT-EXPO was "Museums in the New Era: Innovation, Development and Inheritance", which aimed to showcase the latest achievements in museum academic researches, exhibitions, protection of cultural relics, educational activities and the development and application of educational resources, effectively promoting the communication and cooperation among museums. Duan Xiaoming, the director of the Hunan Museum, led a delegation of the Hunan Museum to participate in this year’s MPT-EXPO. Gu Yucai, deputy Party secretary and deputy director of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, visited the exhibition area of the Hunan Museum and highly recognized the exhibition content and the work results of the past three years.

At this year's MPT-EXPO, the exhibition area of the Hunan Museum spanned 160 square meters or so, comprehensively displaying the achievements of the Hunan Museum, including the exhibitions planning, academic researches, protection of cultural relics, development of cultural and creative products, educational activities, digital technologies and other aspects in the past three years, publicizing the Hunan Museum’s purpose and positioning - "Collaboratively Owning, Building and Sharing the Hunan Museum to the public, further strengthening the brand image and enhancing the reputation and influence of the Hunan Museum in the public and the industry.

The exhibition area, with the theme of "Time in Xiangbo-Hunan Museum", was divided into three parts: "Experience Time", "Touch Time" and "Envision Time". At the entrance of the exhibition hall, a promotional video for the brand image of the Hunan Museum was played in a loop, conveying the concept of the Hunan Museum to the audiences. When the audience walked into the exhibition hall, they could not only browse various exhibition promotional videos, posters, and exhibition photos held by the Hunan Museum in recent years, but also could read published books, experience scientific research results, appreciate replicas of cultural relics, and purchase cultural and creative products, participate in educational activities to "Touch time", and even indulge in "Envision Time" in the Mawangdui restoration dynamic exhibition - "The Dreamland of Xinzhui".

Data presents excellent work achievements

The exhibition area displayed the important work data and photos of the Hunan Museum from 2019 to the present through the graphics and texts on the exhibition boards, and presented the fruitful achievements in 7 aspects including opening, exhibition, education, scientific research, collections, communication, cultural and creative, etc., which reflected Hunan Museum’s determination to fully implement its social functions and demonstrated its belief of continuous innovation in the new era of the fusion of culture and tourism.

The latest achievements, debut on the exhibition site

The exhibition "High Mountains and Flowing Waters Meet Bosom Friends" is the latest achievement based on the "13th Five-Year Plan" National Key Research and Development Project - "Research and Demonstration of Key Technologies for Cultural Relics Exhibition Based on Knowledge Mapping", which was jointly undertaken by the Hunan Museum, the Tianjin University. It visualized multi-dimensional and multi-modal data on important musical relics, musical documents, musical figures and musical forms in Hunan and even Chinese music history into natural landscapes and allowed visitors to freely click on the many knowledge icons on the large touch screen to explore the long history and richness of Hunan and Chinese music culture.

Immersive spaces create dreamlike scenes

"The Dreamland of Xinzhui" is a dynamic exhibition of Mawangdui restoration jointly created by the Hunan Museum and the Peking Opera Protection and Inheritance Center of Hunan. This exhibition specially selected some wonderful projection materials and dance clips to display on the spot. The audiences could get an immersive and dreamlike audio-visual experience, deepen their understanding and cognition of the Mawangdui Han Tomb and the culture of the Western Han Dynasty, and appreciate the charm of deep integration of culture and tourism, history and drama, art and technology, tradition and fashion.
