“Museum Art Educational Salon” program of Hunan Provincial Museum was founded in September, 2008. Combining with temporary exhibitions, the program makes use of rich resources in the museum, and rich and diverse salon activities were held since its establishment. In October, 2013, an exclusive activity was organized for the teachers of the Art Education Salon to visit the “Art Changsha” exhibition hosted by Hunan Provincial Museum. In order to lay a sound foundation for the future development of the program and to enhance the comprehensive Museum-School Cooperation, Hunan Provincial Museum held the “Museum Art Educational Salon” activity on November 23rd, 2013.

Leaders from Changsha Municipal Education and Science Institute as well as over 50 teachers for the program attended the salon activity. Extensive discussions were conducted on the related topics of arts education in museums.

Those activities held in the past year were reviewed. Two representatives from primary schools in Changsha delivered their speeches. Professor Liu Gang of Hunan Provincial Museum gave an introduction of the rich museum resources which could be applied to the art education. Roundtable discussions were carried out and the teachers were divided into six groups. A spokesman was selected from each group to present the group’s discussion results. The topics were diverse, including “What kinds of training can museums provide to teachers?”, “How to decide the training content and form?”, “How do teachers integrate textbooks, curriculum standards and collections and exhibition resources during their teaching activities?”

The salon activity was smoothly carried out, which enhanced the exchange and communication between Hunan Provincial Museum and schools. As the teachers from different schools know more about the education work conducted by Hunan Provincial Museum, it was hoped that further cooperation in the field of education would be promoted between the two sides.
