“Toward Modernity” Attracts Over 10,000 Visitors in the First Week

The art exhibition “Toward Modernity: Three Centuries of British Art” was officially opened to the public on August, 20th, 2013. It was co-organized by Hunan Provincial Museum, Changsha Municipal Museum and other institutions. According to statistics, the number of visitors to this exhibition amounted to nearly 13,000 in the first week. It was estimated that September would witness more visitors as college students, high school students and primary school pupils were to go back to school.  

The gallery is crowded with visitors

At 8:45 on the morning of August 24, 2013, many visitors were standing in a queue at the entrance of Changsha Municipal Museum, among who were pupils with schoolbags, young lovers, couples and senior citizens. At 9:50, the gallery was crowded with visitors, marveling at the great art embodied in those exhibits. Mr. Yan, a teacher from Changsha Feiteng Studio introduced the paintings, their structure and brushwork to his students. Mr. Yan was very excited. He said that he had been dreaming of going to UK one day to appreciate those masterpieces. Now it became possible to view those paintings in Changsha, which was a great opportunity. At 10:30, many children gathered together at the “My art box” educational zone and painted with colored crayons. They were designing their beautiful boxes with great attention. The educational zone was filled with laughers and happiness.
