The 2019-2020 Annual Conference of the Society of Hunan Museums and the Symposium on “Museum and Tourism” held in Zhuzhou

The 2019-2020 Conference of the Society of Hunan Museums and the Symposium on “Museums and Tourism” was held in Zhuzhou City from November 17 to 20,2020, drawing over 220 representatives from nearly 100 museums and cultural organizations in Hunan.

At the opening ceremony on the morning of November 18,2020, leaders from different organizations delivered their speeches, including Jiang Wenhui, Deputy Director of the Hunan Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Chen Xuebin, Director of the Department of Museums and Social Artefacts of the Hunan Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Liu Ping, Director and Zhou Songhua, Level-4 Consultant of the working office of the Hunan Federation of Social Sciences, Duan Xiaoming, Director-General of the Society of Hunan Museums, Director of the Hunan Museum, Dong Xiaoping, Deputy Secretary General of Zhuzhou Municipal People’s Government, and Yang Xiaoyou, Director-General of the Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, Television and Sports.

During the meeting, the participants had a heated discussion and exchange centered on “museum and tourism”. Eight representatives from Zhuzhou Museum, Hunan CPC History Museum, Yiyang Museum, Huaihua Museum, Shanjiang Miao Ethnic Group Museum in Fenghuang County, Memorial Hall of Liu Shaoqi, Liling Museum and Hongjiang Merchant Culture Museum of Huaihua City delivered keynote speeches respectively, introducing their theoretical thinking and advanced experience and practices. In addition, visits and inspections have been made to the new site of Zhuzhou Museum, the Ancestral Hall of Geng Biao, the former residence of Li Lisan, Lujiang Academy in Liling City and other museums and sites protected for their historical and cultural value.

As the top academic museum group in Hunan Province, the Society of Hunan Museums plays an important role in uniting members, improving academic aptitude, promoting business exchanges, and fostering the development of museum cause of the province. The theme of this annual meeting and special symposium as “Museum and Tourism” has fully revealed the trend of the museum field. It also reflects the general trend of China’s museums, which is of tremendous practical significance.

The Conference has received more than 70 papers, which comprehensively reflected the theoretical thinking and working practice of the integrated development of museum and tourism in Hunan museums in recent years.
