Celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival at Museums in China
Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional Chinese festivity which falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in lunar calendar every year. Customarily, people celebrate this joyous festival by eating mooncake (a pastry with mostly sweet fillings) and appreciating the full moon at night. On September 12, the day of Mid-Autumn Festival in solar calendar this year, activities on the theme of Mid-Autumn festival were held at museums all around the country.
1. Beijing Folk Arts Museum
Various activities were held at Beijing Folk Arts Museum, including mooncake-making, DIY Tuerye (clay figurine with the head of a rabbit), lectures themed on the traditions of this festival, moon fiesta, moon appreciating, etc.
2. Heilongjiang Museum
A mooncake mold of Qing Dynasty (1636—1912) was displayed at Heilongjiang Museum in Harbin, northeast of China, on September 12, the day of Mid-Autumn Festival.
3. Guangxi Museum
With mooncake-themed poem reading and writing, DIY mooncake and moon fiesta, more than 20 families experienced a special Mid-Autumn day at Guangxi Museum in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Autonomous Region in south west China.
4. Hunan Provincial Museum
On September 12, 20 kids and their parents had a happy day at Hunan Provincial Museum in Changsha, capital of Hunan in central China. Under the guidance of “Happy Sister”, children enjoyed themselves at the colorful activities such as story-telling and mooncake-making.
