Chinese Museums Celebrate Lunar New Year with Various Dragon-themed Exhibitions

The past half month, from January 23 to February 6, is the Chinese Spring Festival (Lunar New Year), the most important traditional festival for Chinese people. Museums all around the country celebrated the festival with different kinds of Dragon-themed exhibitions. Visitors are able to discover the rich history and traditions of the Chinese Dragon Culture through images and artifacts.

Capital Museum, Beijing: Lucky Dragon Lucky Year-Lunar New Year in the Museum

The exhibition contains three parts - Development of Dragon, Auspiciousness of Dragon, and Descendants of Dragon. Hundreds of relevant historical relics are exhibited, which illustrate the change of Dragon’s image and the concept of its culture.

Sichuan Museum, Chengdu: Dragon Bless Sichuan

The displays, chronologically arranged, tell visitors the origin and the images of Dragon in different historical periods and related customs. Visitors are presented with an abundance of bronze-ware, paintings and calligraphies, ceramic wares, jade articles and folk customs which cover a history of approximately 2,000 years.

Qiqihar Museum: Good Wishes in the Year of the Dragon - Exhibition of Dragon Culture

 

The most amazing work are a giant blue kite made of silk with a 30-meter-long flying dragon on it a suspended artwork called Two Dragons Frolicking with a Pearl. In addition, a set of furniture, including benches, a tea table, screen and other items, with Dragon patterns, appeals to the audience who appreciate its antique style.

Henan Museum, Zhengzhou: Zhang Wanqing’s Dragon Calligraphy Exhibition

 

More than 500 masterpieces of calligraphy on both paper and ceramics written by distinguished Chinese calligrapher Zhang Wanqing were on display. A lot of visitors hold the same opinion, saying that the exhibition is extraordinary and it is never easy to write the Chinese character “Dragon”.

Shanghai Museum: Precious Dragon-Related Heritages

 

Displayed in the exhibition halls of Shanghai Museum are a huge number of precious heritages relating to Dragon, such as The Jade Dragon from the Warring States Periods (475-221BC).

Spending the beginning of the year in museums not only enriches people’s knowledge about Chinese culture and history, but also indicates that every family will skyrocket, just like Dragon, and will always enjoy good luck during the year.
