Chinese Museums Offer Cultural Feasts to Citizens during Spring Festival

As the Year of Snake draws near, many Chinese museums provide multiple choices for citizens to enjoy their Spring Festival holidays at museums where rich traditional Chinese folk art and culture are on display.

National Museum of China

The Exhibition “Earth, Sea, and Sky: Nature in Western Art—Masterpieces from The Metropolitan Museum of Art” is now on view in National Museum of China in Beijing through May 9, 2013. The 130 works of art are drawn from the Metropolitan Museum’s vast encyclopedic holdings, and they are masterful representations of landscape, flora, and fauna rendered in a wide range of media including painting, ceramics, tapestry, silver, stone, and bronze. Highlights include works by such major artists as Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monet, Tiffany, Hopper, and Atget, as well as anonymous masters from the ancient and medieval worlds. Visitors in Beijing will be lucky to enjoy this culture feast in spring festival holidays.

Capital Museum

Capital Museum, Beijing is hosting a six-day “Lantern Puzzle” event as a part of the celebration of Spring Festival. 100 lantern puzzles are provided. Those who find the answer to just one puzzle will be awarded a gift carefully prepared by the museum. And also, Peking Opera fans in Beijing can enjoy several famous Peking Opera performances at the museum.

Taipei Palace Museum

On Chinese New Year’s Eve, Taipei Palace Museum will be open until 16:00. The museum will be open regular hours for the rest of the holiday week. A series of exhibitions of traditional Chinese culture are on display: “Rare Books and Secret Archives Treasures from the Collection of Taipei Palace Museum,” “Myriad Forms in the Tip of a Brush: The Art of Calligraphy by Zhu Yunming,” “The Beauty of Palace-Covering Flowers: Zhao Chang’s ‘Picture for the New Year’” and others.

Shanxi Museum

There are lots of fun events for the traditional Chinese New Year in Shanxi Museum. “Lantern Making”, “Dough Figurine”, “Chinese Character Carving” and “Expert Interpretation of the paintings of Fu Baoshi” and other programs will be provided by Shanxi Museum.

Hebei Folk Arts Museum

Citizens can learn paper-cuttings at the Hebei Folk Arts Museum in Shijiazhuang, capital of north China’s Hebei Province, Feb. 3, 2013. Pupils of Weitong Primary School were invited to present paper-cuttings at the museum to celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival.
