The person in charge of this program in Hunan Provincial Museum explains the fascination of these online galleries. All the pictures are taken from the galleries and users can “stroll” in this virtual museum, viewing a myriad of artifacts on display. Users can also zoom in the pictures and examine the pattern and design on the artifacts. 40 distinguished artifacts are selected and can be viewed in 3D form. While users are visiting these virtual galleries, audio tours are provided so that they can learn more information and knowledge within a short period.
The main reason for launching this program is that Hunan Provincial Museum is temporarily closed due to a renovation of its original building and construction of a new grandeur exhibition hall. These online galleries will meet the demands of the general public for cultural learning and enhancement. Therefore, more emphasis is put on the building of digital galleries and the website of this museum.
Meanwhile, the website of this museum is undergoing a face-lift, which is the largest face-lift since its founding in 2007. The renovated website integrates appreciation, knowledge, entertainment and interaction, with its contents featuring museum news, exhibitions, virtual tours, learning and education, appreciation of collections, entertainment, interactive activities and so on. All the visitors are expected to enjoy the time browsing the website of Hunan Provincial Museum as it strives to provide quality museum knowledge and news.
