Director Chen Jianming Attended 2011 China-UK Exchange in Museum Circle

From November 25 to December 1, Chen Jianming, director of Hunan Provincial Museum, was invited and attended the 2011 China-UK exchange in museum circle, an event organized by China-UK Connections through Culture. 

This exchange event between the museums of China and UK aims at promoting the connections and cooperation between two countries, providing the professional staff in museums with a platform and opportunities for experience sharing and learning and building lasting relationships between museums and related organizations in the UK and China in such fields as exhibition, education and staff training.

 During the visit, director Chen Jianming paid a visit-and-study tour to many national and regional well-renowned museums such as British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, National Mining Museum Scotland, Riverside Museum in Glasgow and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, carrying out academic activities and talks on the exhibition cooperation with those museums.

The focus of this event is the exchange between the museums that have undertaken renovation projects or achieved outstanding achievements in exhibition design. In the academic session themed “Museum Exhibition Design” held at National Museum of Scotland, Director Chen Jianming delivered a keynote speech titled “Need-Oriented Design: the Core Element for the Museum Design Process and Approach——the Construction Design Concept and Practice of the Renovation Project of Hunan Provincial Museum”, introducing and sharing the core concepts, experiences, technical applications and practice of the renovation project of Hunan Provincial Museum, which received strong responses and was highly reviewed by the representatives from both countries.

About China-UK Connections through Culture:

China-UK Connections through Culture, launched in July, 2006, is a joint initiative between the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the British Council with support from the Scottish Government and Welsh Assembly Government.

The initiative offers support, information, advice, networking opportunities and development grants to cultural organizations in China and the UK, aiming to build long lasting relationships and to develop exciting cultural collaborations between organizations in the two countries.

China and the UK both have a rich cultural heritage. Cultural organizations in both countries can benefit from the input, impetus and inspiration gained from exchanging ideas and sharing their cultural history with partners from the opposite country.

This Connections offer information about the cultural organizations in the two countries, regular and frequent study tours and networking events between China and Britain, development grants and various support on knowledge, tailored advice, trouble-shooting, etc.
