Director of the Museum of Oriental Art in Turin Leads Delegation on Visits to Hunan Museum

On July 27, Davide Quadrio, Director of the Museum of Oriental Art in Turin led his delegation on visits to Hunan Museum, and had a panel discussion with Duan Xiaoming, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of Hunan Museum.

Duan Xiaoming gave a brief introduction of the basics of Hunan Museum and highlighted the collaboration with Italian museums on exhibition programs including “Pompeii: The Eternal City”, “She Walks in Beauty: Women of the Han Dynasty and Rome Empire”, “Pharaohs, Gods and Mummies: Ancient Egyptian Finds Exhibition” and “Finding a Homeland at the End of the World: the Trans-cultural Exchanges and Interactions Between China and Italy from the 13th Century to the 16th Century”.

Davide Quadrio shared long-term professional and life experiences in China as well as the overview, orientation and development concepts of the Museum of Oriental Art in Turin. He hoped that a sustainable and close partnership could be established between the two institutions in the future.

The two sides reached a preliminary consensus on further partnership in terms of academic research, exhibitions, personnel exchanges and cultural relics protection.

During the visit, Davide Quadrio and his delegation also toured “Changsha Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs Exhibition” in Hunan Museum, expressing their keen interest in the exquisite cultural relics unearthed from Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs.

The discussion was also attended by Laura Vigo, Curator of the Museum of Oriental Art in Turin, and Huang Lei, Director of International Exchange Department of Hunan Museum, among others.
