Exhibition of European Glass Artworks Kicks off in Changsha

Opening dance Swan Lake

The Opening Ceremony of the exhibition “European Glass Artwork” was held at 8:00 pm, June 20, in the New Xiangjiang District Planning Exhibition Center (former Dahexi Pilot District Planning Exhibition Center). This exhibition was jointly launched by the Hunan Provincial Museum, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, the Czech Republic and the New Xiangjiang District Planning Exhibition Center. Leaders, representatives and volunteers from many museums, organizations and diverse fields attended the ceremony, deputy director of Hunan Provincial Museum, Liu Xiaobao host the opening ceremony.

Duan Xiaoming made remarks at the ceremony

The Ceremony began with the graceful ballet Swan Lake, then, Duan Xiaoming, the party secretary of the Hunan Provincial Museum delivered a speech. He introduced that the exhibition features 200 pieces (or sets) of artworks from the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, which consists of five parts, namely “glass wares in ancient times”, “glass wares during the Renaissance period”, “glass wares in the baroque and rococo periods”, and “glass wares in the neoclassical period and the modernism art times”, presenting to Hunan people the classic works from Europe. The Hunan Provincial Museum, cooperating with the Inner Mongolia Museum, Beijing Art Museum, Henan Museum and Liaoning Provincial Museum, have brought in famous collections from several renowned foreign museums, aiming to spread outstanding cultures to domestic visitors and promote the cultural communications among civilizations. He said that the exhibition would provide visitors with a wonderful art journey, helping them gain a better understanding about cultural exchanges between the East and the West.

Later, Chen Yuanping, deputy director-general of Culture Department of Hunan Province made an address. He remarked that as a non-profit organization, museum is a bridge of understanding between different regions and races. This touring exhibition involves Hunan, Inner Mongolia, Beijing, Henan, and Liaoning, marking a great cultural communication between China and the Czech Republic.

After the opening ceremony, guests visited the exhibition under the guide of the museum education staff.

This is the first glass artworks exhibition the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague has launched in East Asia and is also the first glass artworks exhibition that China has introduced into the country.

During the exhibition, the Hunan Provincial Museum will organize various activities such as “making glasswork” and “glass mosaic collage for Chinese Valentine’s Day”, creating a serene and leisure art atmosphere for visitors.
