Family-day activities around the exhibition of “Mysterious Tibet Bathed in Buddha’s Light” was held on the third floor, south gallery of Hunan Provincial Museum respectively on January 14, January 18, and Feburary 4, 2012, in the hope of providing school kids with a colorful winter vacation, as well as the opportunity to get to know the history and culture of Tibet. 46 families in total participated in these colorful events.

Family-day activities on Tibetan Cultural Exhibition were designed into 3 parts, story telling, gallery tour and interactive experience.

First of all, with simple and vivid interpretation easily understood by kids, the educators of our museum told the story of Princess Wencheng who married Songtsan Gampo (605–650 AD) , the thirty-third king of the Yarlung Dynasty of Tibet, and brought culture in China’s central plain to Tibet. Kids were deeply touched by the friendship and love of Tibetan and Han people at that time.

Next, students were led to take a tour at the galleries with the themes ranging from Religious Belief, Unity of Ethnic Groups to Tibetan Snowy Scenery, from which kids gained more knowledge about the cultural, historical, religious and artistic life of Tibetan people.

It was followed by videos about the Tibetan Buddhists and Jokhang Temple and  hands-on activities, little participants enjoyed themselves in exotic customs and traditions, spinning the Mani wheels (or prayer wheels), giving their best wishes to their parents and teachers in Tibetan ways, etc.

More activities and events on Tibetan Cultural Exhibition are to be held at Hunan Provincial Museum, please stay tuned!
