At the beginning of 2015, the educational center of Hunan Provincial Museum organized a series of thematic activities, providing visitors with a wonderful cultural feast.

On January 1, “Stories behind the Imperial Kiln” held by educational staff introduces about the special hobbies of emperors in the Ming Dynasty, technological characteristics of the porcelains as well as the cultural life of the royal families. Again, the “Tiny Trolley” enabled viewers to have a close contact with those exquisite Jingdezhen porcelains.

On January 2, family activity “Exploration of the Imperial kiln” began. Under the guide of educational staff, children appreciated the classic blue-and-white porcelain and got better acquainted with such details about imperial porcelain as its production system, shape, decoration and workmanship. During the guide visit, they listened to the stories and anecdotes about the Ming Dynasty, for example, Jingnan Rebellion (a civil war happened from 1399 to 1402) and the “Cricket Emperor Zhu Zhanji (the fifth emperor of Ming, who loved watching cricket fighting)” etc. Later, they observed the designs on porcelains such as peony, grape, dragon, all of which were symbols of gook luck in Chinese culture. In “Colorful Chicken Cups”, kids learned some skills of porcelain painting and created beautiful works.

Another family activity is related with the new exhibition “American Car Culture in Photography”. Families watched a clip of American animation Cars and got to know the structure of automobiles, and their development in the United States and China. Finally came the most interesting part: by painting and rearranging waste materials, children produced many uniquely designed “cars”, bringing a lot of surprise to visitors around.

Those three activities attracted many visitors and were highly praised.
