In December 2016, Hunan Provincial Museum launched its 2016-2020 development plan officially. The plan outlines the strategic plan system in five years and makes clear the missions and directions of the museum in the period of China’s 13th Five-Year plan.

Based on the assessment and summary of the present situation of Hunan Province and several important documents including MUSEUM REGULATIONS released by the State Council, RECOMMENDATION CONCERNING THE PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF MUSEUMS AND COLLECTIONS, THEIR DIVERSITY AND THEIR ROLE IN SOCIETY adopted in the 38th UNESCO conference, the Plan, consisting of general introduction, orientation and mission, vision, milestones, implementation of goals and safeguard measures, studies key issues in the development and fully considers the actual demands and long-term development at the same time, which will become the basic guidelines of all the tasks of the museum in five years.

According to the Plan, the new buildings of Hunan Provincial Museum will be completed and opened to the public in 2017, and is expected to receive 3million visitors every year. The following exhibitions will be staged:two permanent exhibitions “Mawangdui Han Tombs” and “Hunan People”, four special exhibitions including “Bronze wares”, “Ceramics”, “Arts and crafts” and “Paintings and calligraphies”, and two temporary exhibitions including “Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period” and “The Trans-cultural Exchanges and Interactions between Italy and China in the 14th Century to the16th Century.”

The period of 2016-2020 is a critical period for the development of Hunan Provincial Museum. Guided by the plan and taking the overall situation into consideration, Hunan Provincial Museum will follow the directions of  provincial and national governments, take in new experience and achievements, and accelerate the building of a public service system for the purpose of building a professional and creative museum for the public.
