Hunan Provincial Museum Participated in the Compiling of The Encyclopedia of China

The first Editorial Panel Meeting of the Museum Branch of The Encyclopedia of China (the third edition) was held during June 13-15 in Beijing. Nearly 40 experts and leaders in museum field attended the meeting.

Considering that the Museology Institution of Hunan Provincial Museum have made great achievements in terms of research and publishing and that Chen Jianming, honorary director of Hunan Provincial Museum, have contributed management experiences and insightful ideas to the field, the meeting appointed Chen to be the associated editor of the Museum Branch of the Encyclopedia; the compiling office will be located at the Museology Institution of Hunan Provincial Museum. 
 

Chen Jianming explained the constitution of the Editorial Panel, different branches, respective principals and scheduling of the compiling work etc. 

The third edition of The Encyclopedia of China, a large-scale public knowledge service platform that produces, distributes and spreads knowledge by making use of information technology and internet, is a national project supported by the State Council. Due to the rapid development of museum research, the museum branch is separated out as an independent subject in the third edition of the Encyclopaedia. It is planned that the total word items will be increased to about 3000, from previous 466 items in the first and second editions. The total number of words is estimated to be 3 million when the book is finished. The compiling work shall end on June, 2017, lasting for one year.

Hunan Provincial Museum is in charge of the overall arrangement and editing work of the project. In addition, some leaders in the museum are responsible for certain chapters: Chen Jianming, chief editor for “Museum Management”; Duan Xiaoming , chief editor for “Museum Public Service”; Wu Di, associated editor for “Museum Public Service”, Li Huijun, associated editor for “Foreign Museums”.
