It’s Me!--An Art Class in Hunan Provincial Museum
As a unique as well as significant category in western art works, self-portrait also has been regarded as an exploration into the inward world of the artist. What do I think of myself and what do others think of me? Is there any difference? On the morning of December 11, 2010, taking advantage of the current special exhibition of “From the Collections of Uffizi Gallery-- the Genres of Painting-Landscape, Still Life & Portrait Paintings”, over 90 students from Liu Zhengjie Primary School experienced a journey into their own hearts in Hunan Provincial Museum.

To begin with, the teacher briefly introduced the activity schedule and reminded the students to pay attention to the details of paintings by which the features of characters are reflected. Next, students enjoyed a guided tour around the gallery, deeply impressed by the extremely beautiful and exquisite western paintings created in the period of Renaissance, especially by the self-portraits with distinctive styles. Then, gathering in the activity room, students carefully observed themselves in the mirrors and made DIY self-portraits with high enthusiasm and great concentration. After completion, they shared their works with teachers and classmates, enjoying great excitement and fun.

It is the first activity of Schoolchildren Art Class Educational Series held by Hunan Provincial Museum. With increasingly more schools participating in this education program in the future, more and more colorful and interesting art classes will be held in our museum.
