Italian Cultural Heritage Delegation Visits Hunan Provincial Museum

On September 27th, the delegation comprising the experts from the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Ministry and Economic Development visited Hunan Provincial Museum. A symposium was held regarding the professional exchange and study on the conservation and protection of collections after the completion of the renovation and expansion project of Hunan Provincial Museum. Xiong Jianhua, head of the Cultural Relics branch of Hunan Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage and Li Jianmao, deputy Director of Hunan Provincial Museum attended the symposium.

On behalf of Hunan Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage and Hunan Provincial Museum, Xiong Jianhua extended warm welcome to the visiting Italian guests. Li Jianmao, deputy director of Hunan Provincial Museum, presented a detailed introduction of the museum, covering collection preservation, protection, exhibition, renovation and expansion project and so on. Li Jianmao expressed the strong wish that both sides could strengthen exchange and study regarding the collection conservation and protection. He said that since Hunan Provincial Museum was undergoing renovation and expansion, it was of great importance that the museum could follow the fine examples of the world class museums in terms of their advanced collection conservation and protection expertise and technology. Moreover, Hunan Provincial Museum would improve its collection conservation storehouses and the construction of the centre of collection protection with better professional knowledge by taking the long term into consideration.

Valuable suggestions and advices were put forward by Italian collection protection experts since they had many years of experience in the field of collection protection.
