A public lecture themed "The Everlasting Remains Unearthed from Mawangdui Han Tombs” was given by Mr. Liu on the opening day.
The excavation of three tombs of Western Han Dynasty (206BC—25AD) in Mawangdui, Changsha city, from 1972 to 1974 is crowned as one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in China and even in the whole world, and it was acclaimed by a famous scholar as “the only archaeological discovery on a par with the Egyptian Tutankhamun Tomb”.
Over 3,000 pieces of priceless cultural relics unearthed from Mawangdui Han Tombs have incessantly enriched people’s knowledge about the history of China, Chu-Han civilization and Hunan culture. In the last decade, travelling exhibition on Mawangdui treasures has been held all around the world and the country. This time, more than 120 pieces/sets of objects elaborately selected by Hunan Provincial Museum made their debut in Shanxi, leading Taiyuan visitors onto a journey of the brilliant cultures of Han Dynasty.
The exhibition will run until July 26.
