Not To Be Missed
The Adoration of the Magi
Venus with Cupid, Dog and Partridge
Leda and the Swan
An exhibition titled “From the Collections of Uffizi Gallery--The Genres of Painting-Landscape, Still Life & Portrait Paintings” kicked off in Hunan Provincial Museum this week, attracting thousands of audiences to visit.
It is reported that this exhibition, from November 30, 2010 to February 27, 2011, presents a fine assembly of 82 precious paintings from Italian Uffizi Gallery, including The Adoration of the Magi by Filipepi, Leda and the Swan by Tintorett, Venus with Cupid, Dog and Partridge by Titian, etc.
According to Antonio Natali, curator of Uffizi Gallery, the intention behind the choice of the three main genres of painting, namely, the landscape, the still life and the portrait is that each of these will enable the visitor to appreciate the figurative languages adopted by artists over five centuries of history: the landscapes will allow visitors to discern the distinctive features of different places in Italy, while the ‘still life’ will enable them to see the everyday objects and fruits that decked the tables of these same places. Finally, pausing to dwell on the portraits, they will be able to note the dress, hairstyles and attitudes inherent to Italian culture.
