Opening Ceremony of Exhibition “Chinese Characters” and Launching of International Exhibition Tour Held in Beijing

Oracle bone script has long been regarded as the earliest Chinese writing script. Today this culture of Chinese characters is ready to embrace the whole world.

On August 12, 2013, Opening Ceremony of Exhibition “Chinese Characters” and Launching of International Exhibition Tour, organized by National Museum of Chinese Writing, Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Henan Anyang Municipal Government and Henan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, was held in Capital Museum, Beijing. The thematic exhibition will continue for one month in this museum. After its conclusion, the exhibition will start its international exhibition tour.

It is said that elaborate preparations of more than two years has been made for the international exhibition tour of “Chinese Characters”. For example, pre-exhibition of “Chinese Characters” was held in National Museum of Chinese Writing in Anyang, Henan province in April, 2012. November and December of the same years witnessed the exhibition “Beautiful Chinese Characters” being staged respectively in Shanghai and Ningbo.

The evolution of Chinese characters is the main thread of this exhibition. It consists of three sections, namely “the origin and development of Chinese characters”, “the study and spread of Chinese characters” and “the art and innovation of Chinese characters”. This exhibition features 120 objects, including oracle bones, bronze wares, potteries, inscribed bamboo slips, coins, jades, papers and so on. It presents the evolution of Chinese characters from oracle bone script, Chinese bronze inscriptions, small seal script, clerical script, to the regular script. It provides audiences with multi-perspective and multi-dimensional approach towards the brilliance of the culture of Chinese characters and China’s ancient civilization as the fruit of the wisdom of mankind. Meanwhile, all these objects on display demonstrate the significant contributions made by Chinese characters towards the global civilization as well the development of the Chinese civilization.
