Opening Ceremony of Exhibition “Towards Modernity” Held in Changsha
Opening party
On August 17, 2013, the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Towards Modernity: Three Centuries of British Art”, organized by Hunan Provincial Museum, Changsha Municipal Museum, Beijing World Art Museum, the Great Manchester Museum Group, the International Touring Exhibitions and the City Council of Bury, UK, was held at the exhibition hall of Changsha Municipal Museum. It is the first art exhibition that Hunan Provincial Museum contributed to Changsha citizens after its launch of the renovation and expansion project and also the first domestic exhibition that comprehensively displays the development of British art in the past three centuries.
Music performance
The opening ceremony was hosted by Liu Xiaobao, deputy director of Hunan Provincial Museum and attended by representatives from other related organizations. Tony Trehy, director of Bury Art Museum, Angus Bjarnason, consul of the Cultural and Education Section of the British Consulate-General in Guangzhou and Li Jianqun, professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts delivered speeches at the ceremony. And then, guided appreciation tours were provided by Professor Li Jianqun and Li Puxing, professor of School of Fine Arts, Hunan Normal University for the public.
Guided appreciation
The exhibition will be open to public at the Changsha Municipal Museum through October, 7. During the period, Hunan Provincial Museum will provide various educational programs for different groups of visitors: a family activity ”Going to a Party!” is designed for families with Children under 9 years old ; special guided appreciation tours for school kids from 9 to 14 years old; outdoor sketching activities and lectures for college students. Besides, rich online activities through the platform of Weibo are launched at the same time.
