The Opening Ceremony of the New Hunan Museum launched

The opening ceremony of the new Hunan Museum was held on November 29,2017. Cai zhenhong and other leaders from national and provincial governments were present. 

After arduous efforts for five years, the newly-built Hunan Museum is now finally open to the public at 1:00PM, November 29, 2017. The museum is in trial operation during the first three months after its opening.

The Hunan Museum is located in the famous historical city of Changsha. Adjoining the beautiful Martyrs' Park, it is the largest comprehensive history and art museum in Hunan Province. The preparation for its founding started in 1951 and the museum was opened to the public in 1956. It is one of the first batch of national first-level museums and also one of the first eight national museums co-funded by central and local governments. The museum is also a Chinese AAAA-rated tourist attraction.
 
The museum building is designed by the world-famous architect Arata Isozaki. His design is inspired by Dingsheng Dongting (the four Chinese characters together means great prosperity of Hunan Province), ding in ancient time is a national symbol; Dongting Lake basin is the birth center of Hunan civilization. The concept embodies the significance of Hunan provincial museum for the regional area and the whole nation. The overall layout is symmetric, concise, reliable and uniform with a three-hall-style structure combining Hunan humanities, Chinese traditional culture and modern culture.

Boasting abundant collections, the museum houses over 180,000 artifacts, which feature the cultural relics excavated from the world-famous Mawangdui Tombs of Han Dynasty, the bronze wares of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, cultural relics of Chu State, pottery and porcelain works from various dynasties, calligraphy works and paintings, religious objects, handicrafts and cultural relics of modern times. As the place for the preservation and display of the culture of Hunan Province, the museum houses two permanent exhibitions, four themed exhibitions and two special exhibitions, with the total exhibition area amounting to 27,265 square meters.

Changsha Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs Exhibition and the Hunanese-Exhibition of Hunan Culture and History, two permanent exhibition are now on display with three themed exhibitions and two special exhibitions to be held later.
