Photography Exhibition of Zhang Yikun Held in Hunan
The photography exhibition “Homeland: images of farming culture” of Zhang Yikun was held in Changsha Municipal Museum on December 13, 2013. The exhibition was co-curated by writer Peng Jianming and artist Dai Shuzheng.
Zhang Yikun, member of China Photographers Association, has successfully held many leadership positions in county, municipal and provincial governments since 1964. He started photography after his retirement and published several photographic series. His works have been displayed in several exhibitions and won prizes.
Out of his love to his native land where farming culture of long history is dying out, Zhang Yikun, for 3 years, spared no efforts to seek and capture scenes in the countryside of Hunan province with the purpose to record few old farming activities and folk customs there, evoking the similar memory of other people. So far, he has taken tens of thousands of photos, over 100 of which were collected and published by Hunan Fine Arts Publishing House as an album. It was regarded by experts as the “most comprehensive photographic album in farming culture.”
The exhibition, with nearly 80 representative works of Zhang Yikun and many objects concerning farming activity on display, has a strong visual impact. Combining the role of recording with art exhibiting, it opens a door for viewers to appreciate Chinese old agricultural civilization, greatly carrying forward the spirit of Chinese traditional culture, revealing virtues and humanity beauty of the nation.
The exhibition opens to the public for free from December 13 to 20.
