Press Conference on a Large-scale Documentary: Centennial of the National Museum of China

On December 28, 2012, the press conference on the Centennial of the National Museum of China (NMC), a large-scale documentary, was held at the NMC Lecture Hall. As a joint effort of NMC and CCTV, the documentary costs two years and will be broadcast in CCTV Science and Education Channel on January 1, 2013.

NMC Director Lu Zhangshen said in the conference that NMC celebrated its 100th birthday on July 9, 2012, when President Hu Jintao in his congratulatory letter spoke highly of NMC for its devotion to the inheritance and spread of Chinese culture, its remarkable achievements in collecting and protecting cultural relics, undertaking scientific researches and hosting exhibitions, and its outstanding contributions to the development of cultural industry, the improvement of people’s culture attainment and the construction of a shared spiritual home for the Chinese nation. This documentary, reflecting the NMC’s evolution in the past century, was completed by CCTV at the yearend 2012. This extraordinary project of great historic and aesthetic value and far-reaching significance makes a great contribution to the cultural development of China.  

He also made a special mention of the support from Cai Wu, Minister of Culture, and leaders from CCTV, and the painstaking efforts of the CCTV personnel, especially the general director Yan Dong and his crew. On behalf of NMC, Director Lu extended gratitude to them all.
