Public Lecture on Imperial Porcelains Delivered by Hunan Provincial Museum
In order to help people get a better understanding about the craftsmanship and the decoration art of imperial porcelains of the Ming Dynasty as well as relevant system and background, Li Jianmao, deputy director of Hunan Provincial Museum delivered a lecture on the porcelain appreciation at the School of History and Culture, Hunan Normal University on December 2, taking the special exhibition “Decoding the Royal Kilns” as an example.
Nearly 200 people attended the lecture that night, including volunteers and staff in Hunan Provincial Museum, teachers and students from the School of History and Culture and other citizens. During the lecture, Li Jianmao presented the development history of porcelain art from Yuan Dynasty(1271-1368) to Ming Dynasty(1368-1644) and related certain historical background, elaborated the artistic styles and techniques of porcelains made in different periods of Ming. Besides, he also vividly introduced some precious porcelains to the audience with pictures and texts, highlighting representative items in the Special Exhibition Decoding the Royal Kilns. The lecture won several rounds of loud applause and was highly praised. After that, Li also closely interacted with the audience on some interesting topics such as the collection and firing methods of Ming porcelains.
