On November 15, 2013, the “Great Master– Selected Paintings and Calligraphic Works of Qi Baishi II” co-organized by Hunan Provincial Museum and Hubei Provincial Museum opened at the exhibition hall of Hubei Provincial Museum.

You Zhenqun, deputy secretary of Hunan Provincial Museum, said: “Qi Baishi was one of the best known and the most influential artists in China during the 20th century. His artistic works were not only valuable spiritual wealth to our Chinese people, but also among the world’s art treasures. The personal life and artistic experience of Qi and his works such as paintings, calligraphies, seal cutting works, poems as well as his remarks on art creation and appreciation are precious and rich cultural heritage. We have selected 100 works of Qi both to honor the art master and to make more and more people get profound understanding of his spirit, thus enhancing the spread of Qi’s arts and carrying forward the Chinese traditional culture.”

Fang Qin, director of Hubei Provincial Museum said in his speech that the theme of exhibition this time --“Great Master – Selected Paintings and Calligraphic Works of Qi Baishi II” followed the one co-organized by Hubei Provincial Museum and Liaoning Provincial Museum in 2009. Works of Qi, which suit both refined and popular tastes, once impressed visitors in Hubei deeply. Different from the last exhibition where most of the exhibits were Qi’s early paintings, this time, half of the 100 works on exhibition are his calligraphies and seal cutting works. The exhibition comprehensively displays the artistic works of Qi Baishi who epitomized such Chinese traditional art as poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal and will be very popular among visitors.

The exhibition will last for one month until December 15.
