Qi Baishi Masterpieces from Hunan Provincial Museum on Show in Jiangsu Province

On September 28, the opening ceremony of the exhibition “From a Carpenter to a Master: Qi Baishi Masterpieces from Hunan Provincial Museum” was held at Huai’an Musuem, Jiangsu Province.

This exhibition of Qi Baishi Masterpieces will run for one month, from September 28 to October 28.

 The 100 masterpieces on display features ink paintings, calligraphy and seals of Qi Baishi of various periods collected by Hunan Provincial Museum.

Qi Baishi is a master of art in China. He devotes himself to the study and exploration of art and has a pioneering spirit in establishing a unique style of his own.

The 100 masterpieces on display will take the audiences on to a unique and special artistic journey.

The theme of innocence and the red and black painting style do inject some fresh air into the Chinese painting history. Qi Baishi’s interpretation of the beauty in nature and life is vividly embodied in his masterpieces, such as Litchi and Mantis PaintingPurple Vine and Bee Painting, Lotus Flower and Shrimp in Black Ink Paiting and Double-Life Paiting. The Calligraphies of Running script scroll of poem and Seal script couplet have reflected his neat brush writing with strong force. His “single-knife” seal cutting technique is fully demonstrated in his seal masterpieces on show this time.

The cooperation between Hunan Provincial Museum and Huai’an Museum gives birth to this exhibition of Qi Baishi Masterpieces, providing a precious opportunity for residents in Huai’an to feast their eyes on such a grand cultural event. By enjoying the masterpieces of Qi Baishi, the audiences will take a tour of the splendid artistic world of the master of art in China.

This exhibition was co-hosted by Administration of Cultural Heritage of Jiangsu Province, Administration of Cultural Heritage of Hunan Province, Huai’an Administration of Culture, Radio, Television, Press and Publishing, Huai’an Administration of Cultural Heritage, Huai’an Administration of Finance and Huai’an Bureau of Tourism. It is a large scale cultural exchange exhibition co-organized by Hunan Provincial Museum and Huai’an Museum.
