Story-Telling I on “Find Your Dream in Tibetan Cultural Exhibition” Held at Hunan Provincial Museum
The first “Story-telling Event” around the exhibition of “Mysterious Tibet Bathed in Buddha’s Light” was held on the third floor, south gallery of Hunan Provincial Museum on January 1, 2012, in the hope of providing school kids with a colorful winter vacation, as well as the opportunity to get to know the history and culture of Tibet.
With simple and vivid interpretation easily understood by kids, the educators of our museum told the story of Princess Wencheng who married Songtsan Gampo (605–650 AD) , the thirty-third king of the Yarlung Dynasty of Tibet, and brought culture in China’s central plain to Tibet. Kids were deeply touched by the friendship and love of Tibetan and Han people at that time.
It was followed by videos about the Tibetan Buddhists and Jokhang Temple, through which the students got some knowledge about the religion and religious practices. In the following hands-on activities, little participants enjoyed themselves in exotic customs and traditions, spinning the Mani wheels (or prayer wheels), giving their best wishes to their parents and teachers in Tibetan ways, etc.
Last, "Students of Excellence” were selected and awarded with Khatag, a white scarf showing the auspicious symbolism in Tibet.
More activities and events on Tibetan Cultural Exhibition are to be held at Hunan Provincial Museum, please stay tuned!
