Treasures from Hunan Provincial Museum Contribute to the Exhibition of Qin-Han and Roman Civilizations

Jointly organized by the China State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the Italian Ministry for Cultural Activities and Heritage, "The Exhibition of Qin-Han and Roman Civilizations" had been held from June 26, 2009 to March 31, 2011. It is the first cultural collaboration between the Chinese and Italian governments. The magnificent civilizations of the Qin-Han and Roman Empires from 3rd century BC to 2nd century AD had been brought to life through this exhibition of more than 500 valuable relics from 71 museums around the world, along with models, pictures, and videos.

This exhibition consisted of six sections: a prologue, the establishment of Empires, material civilization, daily life, spiritual world, and the ever integrating world. Here one could find Roman Emperors with their golden coins; sculptures, paintings and stone inscriptions, which reflect the daily life of ancient people. Also there were silks, jade and lacquer ware from the Qin-Han Dynasties.

The focus of the exhibition was on the communication between the two civilizations. The exhibition was the first attempt of its kind to make a comparison of the two cultures.

The show was one of the opening programs to celebrate the Chinese Culture Year in Italy in 2010 and had been successively exhibited in Beijing, Luoyang, Milan and Roma.
